PS3 optical drive won’t spin/read discs?

I just got a used PS3 Slim from gamestop. I’m I don’t have any Blu Rays or PS3 games yet, but because this is my first PS3, I decided to see if it could play a normal DVD. When I put it in, the loading circle on the top right spins for a while, then I hear a sound similar to a disc eject sound, and after a little more loading, the circle on the top right freezes and even though I have auto-play on, nothing happens. I looked around the XMB and have not found any icons to select the disc. I then tried multiple other DVD’s, a music CD, and a PS1 game, with the same results. I have tried several fixes I found on the internet, including turning it at an angle, restoring file systems, and putting in another disc in part-way after it. Although I have a warranty on it, I was wondering if anybody knew some way to fix it on my own, without opening it and possibly voiding the warranty (I don’t know if gamestop’s warranty is void if the seal is broken, but I’d rather not test it).

  1. If you just got it and it doesn’t work, take it back and get one that does. That’s what the warranty is for. No sense dealing with broken crap if you don’t have to.

  3. return it , you got a used ps3 that is broken , before you get another one tell them you want to plug it in and test it fully , that will mean trying a dvd and a game on disc and downloading a demo to see that it also plays off the hard drive

you will only have q 30 day warranty though so the next one could last 31 days and break , that;s the chance you take buying used consoles

if you can afford it then a new one is a better option , even if you have to put fown half the money and go back a month later and pay the rest spending the money on a brand new 500GB ps3 is worth it
